Create a deposit offer

A full walkthrough of every tab in the deposit offer form.

A deposit offer (purchase option) lets buyers pay part of the price at checkout and the rest later. Each offer has its own deposit amount, balance timing, products and design.

Where to find it

Depositly → Purchase options → Create purchase option

To edit an offer, click its name or the pencil icon in the list.

The four tabs

Tab

What you set there

Where it applies

Products, exclusions, active dates, display rules, customer targeting, quantity limits

Appearance

How to set it up

  1. Go to Purchase options and click Create purchase option.

  2. Offer terms:

    • Enter a Name. Buyers don't see it.

    • Check the Deposit mode line. If your gateway can't save cards, create the offer in draft-order mode.

    • Under Purchase type, pick Deposit + balance (most stores) or Installments (Shopify Plus only).

    • Under Payment options, set the deposit amount. You can also allow Pay in full.

    • Under Balance due date, choose when the balance is due.

  3. Where it applies: under Assign to, choose the products. Add exclusions or display rules if you need them.

  4. Appearance: add an inline message, an order tag, or edit the checkout text.

  5. After the order: set reminders, pickup dates and the refund policy.

  6. Set the status to Active and click Save.

Check the preview

The Preview on the right shows how buyers will see the offer. Switch between the Storefront, Cart, Checkout and Order tabs to follow the whole journey.

To see it on a real product page, click the eye icon next to the offer in the Purchase options list. The offer needs to be active and cover at least one published product.

Good to know

  • A product can only use one deposit offer. If two offers cover the same product, the older offer wins.

  • If an offer covers no products, the list shows Covers nothing. Open the offer and change what it applies to.

  • Changing the deposit type or balance timing later only affects new orders. Orders already placed keep the terms they were bought under.
