Create a split order manually

Send a payment plan to a customer by email, for phone orders, custom work or draft orders.

You can create a split order yourself in the app. You add the products, set the payments and enter the customer's email. The app emails the customer a secure payment link for each payment.

Use it for:

  • phone and email orders,

  • commissions and custom work,

  • sending a 50/50 invoice instead of a full-payment draft order.

Shopify's own Create order screen can't add a deposit, so use this instead.

Where to find it

Depositly → Split payments → Orders → Create split order

You can also go to Orders & balances → Split orders tab → Create split order.

How to set it up

  1. Click Create split order.

  2. Choose the Payment type:

    • Multiple: one buyer pays in several parts, each with its own link.

    • Shared: several people each get their own invoice.

    • Installment: the order is divided into equal instalments.

  3. Add products. Search your catalog, click Browse, or click Add custom item for something that isn't a product.

  4. Set the payments:

    • For Multiple, add a row for each payment and enter the amounts, or click Split evenly.

    • For Installment, set the Upfront payment and the Number of payments.

    • For Shared, enter each recipient's email and amount.

  5. Enter the customer's Recipient email.

  6. Click Create.

The payments must add up to the products total.

Send the link in your own email

  1. Open the split order.

  2. Next to an unpaid payment, click Open. The payment page opens in a new tab.

  3. Copy the address from your browser and paste it into your own email.

Use split payments only from your admin

If you don't want buyers to see a Split Payment button on your store:

  1. Open your split payment offer.

  2. On Where it applies, tick Dashboard only - don't show this on my storefront.

  3. Click Save.

Good to know

  • An existing Shopify draft order can't be turned into a split order. Create a new split order with the same products, then delete the old draft.

  • The card isn't saved with this flow, so the customer pays each link themselves. If you need to charge the balance yourself later, have the customer buy through a deposit offer on your store instead.

  • By default, all invoices are emailed when you click Create. To send later ones only when they're due, see Send invoices later.

  • Each part's invoice lists the products with a discount line, so the total equals that part. If you want one simple line instead, change Split order contents. See Split payment settings.
