Can I collect the balance in person instead of charging the card?
Yes. You have two options:
Manual collection: the card is saved at checkout, but Depositly never charges it. See Collect the balance manually.
Take the balance in person on collection: no card is saved, and no invoice or reminder is sent. See Take the balance in person.
Checkout says the card will be charged, but I use manual collection. Will it be charged?
No. That paragraph is Shopify's standard text for deposit orders. Shopify doesn't know about your manual collection setting. Depositly won't charge the card. You can reword Shopify's text in your theme. See Edit the checkout text.
Don't use On fulfillment timing if you don't want a charge, because Shopify charges that balance itself.
Can I charge the balance myself when I'm ready?
Yes. Use Collect now in Orders & balances to charge the saved card any time. You can also set the balance to On fulfillment, so it's charged when you fulfil the order.
Can I change the balance date after someone has ordered?
Yes. Change the payment due date on the order in Shopify, and Depositly picks up the new date. To hold a balance without a new date, pause it.
Changing the offer's timing only affects new orders.
A campaign didn't reach its goal. How do I stop the balances being charged?
Pause the balances in Orders & balances. You can pause every balance of one offer at once. To cancel for good, cancel the orders in Shopify. The open balances are cancelled right away. Refunding deposits is a separate choice.
Can I charge the balance a number of days before the customer's event date?
Yes. Turn on pickup dates and let buyers pick their own date. Then set the balance due date to A number of days before the pickup date. See Let buyers choose a pickup date.
Can a buyer pay any amount they want, whenever they want, until a deadline?
Yes, with a split order. Create a Multiple split order, then turn on the contribution link and send it to the buyer. They can pay any amount, as often as they like, until the balance is covered. See Let friends and family chip in.
Can I split a payment into 4 parts on dates I choose?
Yes. Create a Multiple split order with 4 payments, then use Change due date on each payment. See Create a split order manually.
A layaway customer paid part in cash. Can I record it?
For split orders, yes. Use Mark as paid on the payment.
For deposit orders, you can only mark the whole balance as collected. Charging or recording part of a balance needs Shopify Plus.
What happens if a charge fails?
Depositly retries automatically and emails the buyer to update their card. See Failed payments and retries.
How do buyers pay the balance after the deposit?
It depends on your setup. In automatic mode, the saved card is charged on the due date. In draft-order mode and split payments, buyers get an invoice by email. Buyers can also see and pay balances in the customer portal.
