Does a deposit create one order or two?
It depends on the mode:
Automatic mode: one Shopify order. The deposit and the balance are two payments on the same order, with the same order number.
Draft-order mode: the deposit invoice becomes one order, and the balance invoice becomes a second order when it's paid.
Split payments: each paid part becomes its own order.
How is revenue recorded?
In automatic mode, the order has one total. After the deposit, Shopify shows it as partially paid with the balance outstanding. After the balance, it shows as paid. Shopify's sales reports count the full order value when the order is placed, while payment reports show the money as it comes in.
With split payments and draft-order mode, each payment is recorded on the day it's paid, because each one is its own order.
Will split orders take stock off twice?
With the default Real cart items + discount setting, yes. Each paid part creates an order with the products, so stock is taken off once per part.
To avoid this, go to Settings → Split payments → Split order contents and choose Single custom line (legacy). Then no stock is taken off by split orders, and you adjust stock yourself.
I see two draft orders for each deposit. Are they duplicates?
No. In draft-order mode, one draft is the deposit and the other is the balance. With a 50/50 deposit, they can look the same.
Do order attributes like UTM tags stay on the order?
In automatic mode, yes. Depositly doesn't replace the order, so anything saved to it stays through the balance payment. Save values as order attributes if you want them in Shopify's order export.
Why don't some orders show in Orders & balances?
Only orders placed through a Depositly offer, and split orders made in the app, show there. Orders from before you installed the app, POS orders marked as unpaid, and drafts made in Shopify's own "Create order" screen don't appear.
Does the buyer get an order confirmation?
Yes. Shopify sends its normal order confirmation, which shows the items and the deposit paid. A pickup date is saved on the order but isn't in the email by default. You can add it by editing the email template in Shopify.
Can I change the items after the order is placed?
Yes. Use Edit order in Shopify. If you take the balance in person, the deposit stays as it is and you collect the new remaining amount at the till.
