FAQ: Payments and gateways

Which payment providers work with Depositly?

For automatic balance charges, the card must be saved at checkout. Shopify allows this on Shopify Payments, PayPal Express, Adyen and Stripe.

With any other provider, use draft-order mode or split payments. Both work through Shopify invoices, so buyers can pay with any method you accept. See Check your payment gateway.

Why can't buyers use Apple Pay, Google Pay or my local payment method on a deposit?

On a deposit checkout, Shopify hides payment methods that can't save a card. This is a Shopify rule, not an app setting. If you want every payment method, switch the offer to draft-order mode.

Checkout says "This store can't accept payments right now", or my payment options disappeared.

Your gateway can't take deposit orders. Shopify blocks payment for any cart with a deposit item. To fix it:

  • switch the offer to draft-order mode, or

  • turn on a supported gateway, like PayPal Express, in Settings → Payments, or

  • deactivate the deposit offer while you decide.

Buyers may need to clear their cart and add the product again.

Shopify Payments isn't available in my country. Can I still use Depositly?

Yes. Use draft-order mode for deposits, or split payments. You can also collect balances manually, for example cash on delivery.

The app says my gateway can't auto-charge, but I use Shopify Payments.

Click Re-check my gateway in the banner, then reload Depositly. If the warning stays, contact us.

Does Depositly store card numbers?

No. Depositly never sees or stores card numbers, expiry dates or security codes. In automatic mode, Shopify saves the card securely. In draft-order mode and split payments, no card is saved at all.

Can a customer split one payment across two cards?

Not in a single payment, because Shopify checkout can't do that. With a Multiple split payment, the order is paid in parts, and each part can be paid with a different card.
